Thoughts about my Death Guard.

Now I know I have a lot on the go right now 40K wise, but that is just how I do it. I go between my armies and slowly get progress on one before moving to the other, just to keep things fresh. So what I had in mind for this post was talking about my plans to further expand my Death Guard force.

I was at a point where I met my 2000 point goal with my Death Guard and that was good enough for a while, until I started REALLY thinking about it. I was sitting there and had a though I was like “Whoa wait why didn’t I actually craft a Brigade and now have just a battalion?” Turns out the answer is that I was just getting back into the game and had just been trying to fill out points with all the cool stuff I wanted. Now that I have had more time with it I realize I want to have a brigade for all the CP. I suppose I could also swing a double battalion as well, but I want to keep it as one whole detachment.

So without further ado this is what I have currently as a main force. There is heavy investment into elites and soaking up a huge amount of points. The distinct lack of troops and heavy support make a conversion into a brigade a daunting task, considering the cost of plague marines.

So that is what I sit at now, and had planned numerous additions to get brigade ready, the list is as follows;

HQ
Daemon Prince of Nurgle – Now this isn’t necessarily a necessity for creating a brigade, but more something of a comfort that I would like to have at some point as they are strong and pretty cool honestly. Also wanted to think of some cool conversions to create that would have the wings.

Troops

Cultists x 20 – I have heard stories of how effective basic cultists actually are despite how cheap they are. An easy spot filler for the troop slots that don’t cost an arm and a leg like plague marines do. ( I also got ten of them sitting around already).

Fast Attack

Myphitic Blight Hauler – I really like these guys, because they are fast, have many weapon options and can be purchased for cheap. There is nothing to dislike about these in my opinion.

Heavy Support

Plagueburst Crawler x 3 – The obvious choice for the heavy support slot with their long range support, making them perfect for the foot slogging Death Guard. The only issue? Is their money price especially considering I need THREE of them.

Conclusion

This is what my standard 2000 point army would end up looking like in brigade form:

++ Brigade Detachment +12CP (Chaos – Death Guard) [109 PL, 1998pts] ++

That is all I really had in mind for this post, any comments or advice just let me know! Until next time!

Forgebane hot off the press! New 40K box set!

Hot off the press and just revealed, is the new box set for 40K! Adeptus Mechanicus and Necrons! Wow what a match made in heaven. This box set looks awesome, and should please any Necron or Admech player. Big things are the new Imperial knights in the box set so even if you have all the things you would want for an Admech force those are a big sell! Either way without much further ado here are the leaked photos courtesy of General Games.

Anyway just wanted to bring that hot news and do my part to spread the good word of the God Emperor!

To Primaris or to not Primaris?

I have been tinkering with the idea of resurrecting my old Ultramarines army as they were my first love in Warhammer. This all started a few days ago when I was playing some Eternal Crusade as a Ultramarine and somehow it just got me thinking about my old battleforce. So I went to dig them up from my closet and as luck would have it I would eventually finding them after much searching. As I set them on display, it gave me a feeling of sadness that they were basically all but forgotten amidst a bunch of other old stuff.

They were from a time back when I had no idea how to thin paints or even how to use primer. I had been given that Space Marines Battleforce for Christmas by my mother. Getting that battleforce box for Christmas was still one of the best gifts I had ever gotten in my days of youth. It just represented one of the first times I had ever gotten something like that for Christmas, as it seemed to be the first hobby that my parents acknowledged as legitimate (as they never would buy me videogames save for a couple instances.) Just thinking about it brings me back to those days and makes me grin.

I ended up resolving to start gradually building them back up into a force that I could be proud of and do my original battleforce some justice.

So I now stand at a place where I am unsure of what kind of army composition I would go for. Though the most looming question is to make use of the new fancy Primaris marines or not to? Truly the Primaris would represent the greatest of revivals and usher them into 8th, but would it truly do my old force justice?

If you guys have any thoughts to help me decide what direction to take that classic battleforce and company, it would make for a very interesting project.

My Autarch Conversion

Now I have had quite a bit to say about Warhammer in general, but haven’t said anything about my own ventures with miniatures (wouldn’t be much of a Warhammer fan if I didn’t.) So I am big into Eldar, Dark Eldar and Deathguard, with them being my main three forces. I decided I needed to do something a little different for my Eldar force and wanted to go with an Autarch on foot. Now ask most people who are acquainted with the Eldar minis and they will agree that an Autarch on foot is a little difficult to find. Games Workshop has had miniatures for this purpose in the past, but trying to find one now is rather hard. So I decided for the first time I would do my own conversion, which was rather exciting for me.

For starters the Craftworlds codex tells us that we HAVE to have a Star Glaive which is something I have found people to have mixed opinions about for a couple reasons. People aren’t a fan of the stat line with it being x2 str which on an Eldar isn’t much of an upgrade with their base three strengths. Also modeling wise you are more limited too, basically an Dire Avenger exarch power glaive or the Prince Yriel glaive. Speaking of Prince Yriel, he is the closest you get to a foot autarch so he is often the top choice for people’s conversions. With all that aside lets get down to brass tacks.

So I decided I wanted a fusion gun, and reaper launcher on top of the Star Glaive, which getting the Fusion gun was easy enough as I got one from the Storm Guardians conversion pack. The only issue is that it was for the right hand so I had to custom make a left handed glaive. Took a left over spear arm from my Scourge sprue, took the head of the spear off and replaced it with the head of Dire Avenger exarch glaive along with the shaft. Then for the body I took Prince Yriel and took the head off to stick a Dire Avenger helmet on instead (As I very much enjoy that helmet.) Lastly the Prince Yriel flags had the symbol of Iyanden which I didn’t need so I did my best to scrap it off. After I was satisfied with how it was looking I had decided that I needed to get myself some makeshift mandiblasters on my Autarch. I took a couple of Lasguns that were sitting around, cut the barrels off and put those onto the sides of the helmet. Then to finish it off I took some of the classic GW Green Stuff to make the Mandiblasters fit in better and look better all around. Still need to find a reaper launcher, but that is a problem for later.

So without further ado this is how my Autarch looks at this moment after all of this.

Still needs some work, but here it is in progress. Pictured with other things that need work.

I am no master modeller and it still needs work (especially on the banner to the right,) but I am rather happy with it thus far. Also I would like to take this opportunity to say that I would love to be able to do spotlights of models that people show/send me, but for now that could be a bit of the way down the road.
