Thoughts about my Death Guard.

Now I know I have a lot on the go right now 40K wise, but that is just how I do it. I go between my armies and slowly get progress on one before moving to the other, just to keep things fresh. So what I had in mind for this post was talking about my plans to further expand my Death Guard force.

I was at a point where I met my 2000 point goal with my Death Guard and that was good enough for a while, until I started REALLY thinking about it. I was sitting there and had a though I was like “Whoa wait why didn’t I actually craft a Brigade and now have just a battalion?” Turns out the answer is that I was just getting back into the game and had just been trying to fill out points with all the cool stuff I wanted. Now that I have had more time with it I realize I want to have a brigade for all the CP. I suppose I could also swing a double battalion as well, but I want to keep it as one whole detachment.

So without further ado this is what I have currently as a main force. There is heavy investment into elites and soaking up a huge amount of points. The distinct lack of troops and heavy support make a conversion into a brigade a daunting task, considering the cost of plague marines.

++ Total: [104 PL, 1981pts] ++

So that is what I sit at now, and had planned numerous additions to get brigade ready, the list is as follows;

HQ
Daemon Prince of Nurgle – Now this isn’t necessarily a necessity for creating a brigade, but more something of a comfort that I would like to have at some point as they are strong and pretty cool honestly. Also wanted to think of some cool conversions to create that would have the wings.

Troops

Cultists x 20 – I have heard stories of how effective basic cultists actually are despite how cheap they are. An easy spot filler for the troop slots that don’t cost an arm and a leg like plague marines do. ( I also got ten of them sitting around already).

Fast Attack

Myphitic Blight Hauler – I really like these guys, because they are fast, have many weapon options and can be purchased for cheap. There is nothing to dislike about these in my opinion.

Heavy Support

Plagueburst Crawler x 3 – The obvious choice for the heavy support slot with their long range support, making them perfect for the foot slogging Death Guard. The only issue? Is their money price especially considering I need THREE of them.

Conclusion

This is what my standard 2000 point army would end up looking like in brigade form:

++ Brigade Detachment +12CP (Chaos – Death Guard) [109 PL, 1998pts] ++

This is my goal for my Warhammer minis for the next little while is to get these guys purchased and base painted over the summer here. Also to get my other units painted which I have a slight bit of progress on:

That is all I really had in mind for this post, any comments or advice just let me know! Until next time!

Forgebane hot off the press! New 40K box set!

Hot off the press and just revealed, is the new box set for 40K! Adeptus Mechanicus and Necrons! Wow what a match made in heaven. This box set looks awesome, and should please any Necron or Admech player. Big things are the new Imperial knights in the box set so even if you have all the things you would want for an Admech force those are a big sell! Either way without much further ado here are the leaked photos courtesy of General Games.

Anyway just wanted to bring that hot news and do my part to spread the good word of the God Emperor!

Eldar Paint Progress

source: https://warzone40k.com/image/catalog/blog/Craftworlds-review/craftworlds-codex-review-04.jpg

So I have been meaning to get a lot of progress on my Eldar painting, as I have been very slack in the past as I was more about collecting than painting, but I got incredibly distracted by the release of both Monster Hunter World and Dragonball FighterZ on Friday. Both of these games are incredible and exactly what I wanted them to be, which is something that is rare nowadays considering the very scummy practices we have seen as of late, but that is something I will write about at a later date.

What I really wanted to talk about was more Warhammer miniatures, more specifically some of the progress I have been making on my Biel-Tan Eldar. As I am rather happy with progress so far and the Warhammer community has always been fantastic about the sharing of paint jobs as it is ultimately a friendly community, I figured why not? On the note of painting I always found it hard to decide where to start in a specific army, like for example for my Eldar, do I paint the Guardians to start? The Aspect Warriors? The HQs I have? Always found it kind of hard to decide where to begin. For this I decided to start with the simpler of models.

So there is the start of my Guardians which taught me two things; One) I hate priming/undercoating with White as it feels like it only sticks after 2+ coats. Two) I love using Warpstone Glow and love the shade of green it turns out to be. Also as I live in Canada the cold air outside can mess with spray painting them as I don’t dare to do it inside, so that is another thing to be careful of.

Managed to also get a singular Wraithblade done. Love how it turned out, again I don’t claim to be a paint master, but I do love this model.

Lastly got an Eldar Warlock mostly done, could use a little touching up, his base needs to be dealt with and I want to do more with the Witchblade colour wise.

So all in all over last week (with the exception of Friday to now) I made lots of progress in my Eldar force. On a side note I am very excited for the Dark Eldar codex and hope to see some new models come with it to potentially use for an Ynnari force. Which by the way the Triumvirate of Ynnead looks painful to paint.

Anyway that is all for now, just some simple light-hearted paint report. Might show some more later on as I make progress and even post some of the battle reports I have from games I play with my group of Warhammer buddies if that is something that people would be interested in.

Tabletop Games and why they are awesome

What is it that makes table top games so enticing to people? Well generally they are broad in variety and are usually really well thought out. This can go from board games like Risk, to role playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, and everything in between. Board games have been around for a very long time and most assuredly everyone has at least one fond memory of playing them with family or friends. This is something that reaches across generations and brings people closer together. The varying kinds of games give people of all stripes and tastes something that suits their fancy. These games are quite often very accessible too, making them all the easier to enjoy. There is something in their being that just makes them so popular, perhaps because it is all in all a social experience? The social experience is what defines the D&D nights for me, having friends over and creating unique memories that you will forever remember. I don’t know about everyone else, but my nights playing these kind of games are memorable and I can remember so many of them with ease. Also ironic that something people used to see as being anti-social is more social than how people typically interact nowadays with their phone obsessions. These social interactions are what define the experience in such a memorable way regardless of whatever you are playing, needless to say that people define the experience and the game is just the reason why you are there. Aside from the social experience some of these games are just really well thought out and creative, allowing for all sorts of games to be around in the market. At this point I am sure everyone has heard of Munchkin, but it is such a charming and fun board game that it is hard to imagine anyone ever disliking it. I am not exactly the most religious playing of Munchkin, but the couple times I have played it are fond memories that are way more memorable than the game of League of Legends or Rainbow Six Siege the other night (not that those aren’t enjoyable.) Ever play a video game version of Monopoly, Uno or Risk? Yeah it just isn’t right and usually ends up being really boring. Tabletop Role Playing Games like D&D (especially) have defined how video game role playing games work and greatly influenced them, but they don’t hold a candle to actually playing the real thing in my experience. Sometimes you get great ideas like the Dragon Age Origins tabletop which sounded cool or the Dark Souls boardgame, which are influenced by video games.  I guess what I am trying to say is that tabletop experiences are among some of the best social gatherings I have ever had, bringing something unique that everyone can enjoy and in my belief it is something that everyone should do with their friends/family every once in a while.

P.S. After seeing the word ‘board’ so much you really see how odd of a word it really is.
