Hot off the press and just revealed, is the new box set for 40K! Adeptus Mechanicus and Necrons! Wow what a match made in heaven. This box set looks awesome, and should please any Necron or Admech player. Big things are the new Imperial knights in the box set so even if you have all the things you would want for an Admech force those are a big sell! Either way without much further ado here are the leaked photos courtesy of General Games.
Anyway just wanted to bring that hot news and do my part to spread the good word of the God Emperor!
Crappy pun work aside, I just wanted to take a moment to talk about how much I enjoy using Eldar Fire Dragons and the particular tale of a certain Exarch.
I had a game the other night with a couple of my friends, and it was a 1500 point game that had a 2 on 1 scheme to it. So the one guy with an Adeptus Mechanicus force had 1500 points, while I was teamed up with my other friend with us splitting 750/750. My teammate had a Militarum Tempestus force that was hard focused on deep striking with some snipers and a Leman Russ for support. I will spare the details of the full game, since I just wanted to call attention to the first couple rounds.
So we had decided that a building in the center was a key structure to be had both for strategic value and it was the best terrain we had (it was primed unlike other things.) On the Admech side close to the building were many Skitarii and worst of all an Onager Dunecrawler.
Yeah one of those. Scary things they are and those Neutron Lasers with S10 can be a scary proposition (not to mention other setups,) but yet we set about the task of destroying it right away. Tempestus Scions were on that middle building like gold on Custodes, and my Fire Dragons webway assaulted in as well with some Warlock support. So the combined deep strike force went straight into our favourite building, so that we could benefit from the cover and attempt to erase that Dunecrawler.
This is the purpose of Fire Dragons, this is why I brought them so when the time came I knew what I had to do. Throw Jinx on it from my Warlock and blow it up with the Dragons. Well sadly Jinx failed and so my Fire Dragons had to go at it without the psychic assistance. So it came time for them to fire, and sadly only two of them hit, the Exarch with his Fire Pike and one of the regular Dragons with a fusion gun. Saves were failed, and the damage was going out. I needed 11 damage from the two of them to erase the Onager Dunecrawler, and I got 10 damage on it. It was a little disappointing that a meltagun from my ally had to finish the job, but the best part comes next.
So when it was the Admech turn I knew the Fire Dragons (henceforth FDs) were going to get mowed down, and so it was. Now the FDs have a solid save with a 3+ and the cover taking that to an HQ level of 2+, but all hope went out the window when the shots started coming. A dragoon and another Dunecrawler made short work of the FDs accompanying the Exarch, then it came time for the two squads of Skitarii Vanguard to open fire. Now Radium Carbines are Assault 3, and with some Arc Rifles of Rapid Fire 1, spread out amongst a combined 20 Skitarii Rangers that is a lot of shots going out. Obviously if it wasn’t necessary it would never take that many shots for a single FD Exarch, but it was a different occurrence this time. So it was that the Exarch saved/dodged/survived over 30 shots of combined carbine and rifle fire, which understandably the Admech player wasn’t too thrilled about meaning one thing… He had to kill the Exarch out of principle now. Three Tech-Priest Domini, Two Dragoons, one unit of Skitarii Rangers, and a third Onager Dunecrawler later, the Exarch still stood triumphantly.
This would only last until the next Admech shooting phase, when halfway through he fell to more Skitarii Vanguard fire… So it would be that his legacy was ended and the Tempestus Scions who had stood around him would surely tell tales of the Exarch until the end of their days. After the game I had boasted that he deserved to be commemorated getting a unique name and backstory, with the potential Autarch conversion in the future… to which my friends had agreed was a neat idea. So for now until I think of a good name for him, this will be his legacy because lets face it, Fire Dragons are just awesome and none are hotter 😉 .
Also below is a picture of his stand because I wanted to honour him forever, don’t mind the table and terrain as our collective Warhammer area is a work in progress.. also don’t judge me for him (the Exarch) being unpainted still…
Anyhow that’s all for now, just wanted to recount the tale of the Exarch, also if anyone has any neat or interesting name ideas let me know!
Now as I have been attempting to gather an army of Ultramarines as I had decided a little while back, I got to thinking about the other Space Marine Chapters out there. Now while the Ultramarines are and always will be my first 40K love, sporting a shade of my favourite colour, I found myself considering other chapters. After I looked over my plotted Ultramarines force I realized that it wasn’t exactly something that vibe’d with me or something that exactly made much sense when compared to my other forces.
I got a Death Guard force for a good foot-slog force with enough firepower to hold people down until their hard hitters can get into combo and wreck in the fight phase. These guys are just survivability incarnate as they can shrug off damage like it is nobody’s business and outlast just about any who come up to them. Naturally they are slow moving, but if they manage to tough it out they will bring the win.
Then the Eldar for a ranged heavy power force to mow foes down in a Biel-Tan themed flurry of shuriken weapons with a few specialist melee forces to ambush weak units who cannot defend themselves in melee. Even got some Dark Eldar to reinforce these Eldar in a potential Ynnari force if they ever decide to separate the Triumvirate of Ynnead, So that I can actually acquire tow out of three of them without spending for the whole thing. Eldar as opposed to the Death Guard are squishy, and hit fast from a range reducing enemies to rubbish.
Those two forces occupy different styles, so it required that a third force be something different, otherwise what was the point? So I needed something melee oriented and fast, the first thing that came to mind? Blood Angels.
Ahhh yes the Blood Angels, my other Space Marine love. Ultramarines being the first and Blood Angels being the favorite for the majority of my adult life. There is something about their cursed bloodline that makes them all so very close to becoming blood-thirsty beasts that so very closely resemble their Khornite worshipping lost brothers. This not only makes for awesome story telling, but also makes for great melee rules for them. The aptly named Red Thirst makes their charges even more effective than their brethren, and with a lot of their specialist units focused on close combat this makes it all the sweeter.
So with that melee focus and the use of quick strikes, makes for a good third force to find itself between my other two. Apart from the statistical and rules basis on choosing the Blood Angels, their models look so awesome.
Not that I am any sort of painter of great skill, but these models look amazing and would be a treat to paint.
So all in all I am very excited to start myself a Blood Angels force, as opposed to my original plan of starting an Ultramarines force, which thankfully I didn’t get too done much with before I had a change of heart, I mean other than the Macragge Blue Reivers… even then it is just three of them who If I really wanted to could prime over ’em. Either way I am happy and excited to move forward with a Blood Angels force. As a final note look at my Sanguinary Priest I did a very minor conversion on.
Well I finally got around to finishing the story for Dragon Ball FighterZ and oh my what a treat that game is. We were blessed last month to be given two fantastic releases in both Dragon Ball FighterZ and Monster Hunter World, which is rare to have such gems at once. Both of these two games have provided me with exactly the experience I sought after. As I have previously stated fighting games have long been a staple in my gaming life and I am always happy to find one as quality as DBFZ (as it will henceforth be referred to as.) Made by the company Arc System Works, who brought us the ever popular Guilty Gear franchise as well as other gems like Persona 4 Arena. This game brought the spirit of the 2D anime style fighter with it to be one of the best.
The combat is fast paced surprisingly deep. I say it is surprising because it has the 3v3 style popularized by the Marvel vs Capcom series and those games (In my opinion) don’t have alot of character depth to them, like they feel really button-mashy more than skillful. This isn’t the case with DBFZ as each one of the characters is really good in their own right, but have distinct styles to bring to the table. You want someone with high mobility? Bam throw Trunks in there. Want to compliment that with a grappler? Android 16 is the one for you. Want someone who can mix-up and keep someone guessing? Android 18 suits the task. The thing is the variety and the usefulness of all the characters can make forming your ideal team tough as everyone is good. What I am trying to say is the combat is a great mix of fast pace and technical skill, with a great cast of characters. The art style is also incredible with an equally incredible soundtrack to match.
Now I mentioned the story before and normally in the past the Dragon Ball games follow the story of the show more or less, sometimes with some side stories (looking at you Budokai.) DBFZ has it’s own story written by Akira Toriyama that makes it feel authentic and like it could have been an actual arc in the show. With the introduction of Android 21 who is cool, fun to play, and has a unique design is also a treat for the game. All of these qualities has made her really popular which tells you they must have been doing something right. The story also rewards you with opportunities to see conversations/dialogues that would never take place in the show. How would Vegeta and Nappa interact? What would Cell and Adult Gohan have to say? Just things like that indulge a fan of the series, which is just strengthened by the returning of the original voice cast for all these characters. Hilarious to see some cutscenes with Yamcha or the Ginyu Force, and it is a real treat. The story mode also has a neat leveling system that gives you a bit of extra drive to play your favorite characters as well as a harder difficulty I can’t wait to jump into.
Also inherent to fighting games there is the unmatched pleasure of crushing fools online and this is something that isn’t lose with DBFZ. So for instance here are some ranked matches I had recorded earlier today just to show off some of the game-play.
All in all this is an incredible game-play experience for fighting game and Dragon Ball Z fans alike, likely I am both those things so it is even sweeter, and I could go on and on about how great it is, but I will end with this; I highly, highly, highly recommend this game to anyone, doubly so for those who enjoy fighting games as this is for sure the best one for a long time.
Today was a somewhat productive day for my Warhammer life, got fifteen Dire Avengers, Asurmen, and three Primaris reivers primed with that oh so lovely Macragge Blue.
I have been waiting the better part of two weeks for an ample opportunity to spray my Dire Avengers/Asurmen because the weather where I love isn’t the most favorable conditions for spraying models this time of year. Finally it came to today where it was only -8° C and it wasn’t snowing, so as soon as I got back from the University I was blue-ing those bad boys up. Honestly I love the look of Macragge Blue and is a far better colour to paint with than the Corax White I was using for just about everything else. Plus the best part is for those Dire Avengers there isn’t too much else to do on them after (unless I decide to get fancy) since they are mostly blue. Asurmen is the one that scares me to fully paint as he is pretty detailed and as a linchpin to my force he better be looking his best. Either way the first step for them is done.
Now we come to the aforementioned Reivers which I picked up this past weekend after I broke down and decided to start up my Ultramarines in glorious fashion once more. So I decided to start real cheap, picking up the Reivers easy to assemble kit with the three models, and after assembling those I wanted more. I was able to barter with my roommate for some of his unused Intercessors from the Dark Vengeance kit he and I split, him with Space Marines and me getting Deathguard. At the time I had no interest in the Primaris marines or Space Marines in general, but in hindsight I wish I kept both. Ah well live and learn, anyhow after assembling the Intercessors with their standard Bolt Rifle setup I definitely fell in love with the look and feel of the Primaris Marines. I set about acquiring the Dark Vengeance Captain in Gravis armour and found a cheap deal on EBay; 20 (USD) with shipping, which is a great deal. Only downside is it’ll take a long time as it ships from Russia. Ah well better than paying 45+ dollars in other places if you could find one even. Back to the painting tales though, as I was finishing the Reivers and getting to the Intercessors it began to snow rather heavily which is most unfortunate. Anyhow have some pictures of the models mentioned above.
That is the tale of my army progress as I paint my Eldar and acquire some more Space Marines. Only issue left is coming up with a decent Primaris Ultramarine list. If anyone has any thoughts to add to help me figure it out, just comment or email me at; firstname.lastname@example.org
Just a quick update, made some changes to the overall theme and look of the site! So I hope it is to everyone’s liking! The old look was okay for a bit, but I decided it was time to change it to something a little easier on the eyes. Overall a little more simplified with some minor changes to it, so again I hope everyone who views it enjoys the changes made.

I have been tinkering with the idea of resurrecting my old Ultramarines army as they were my first love in Warhammer. This all started a few days ago when I was playing some Eternal Crusade as a Ultramarine and somehow it just got me thinking about my old battleforce. So I went to dig them up from my closet and as luck would have it I would eventually finding them after much searching. As I set them on display, it gave me a feeling of sadness that they were basically all but forgotten amidst a bunch of other old stuff.
They were from a time back when I had no idea how to thin paints or even how to use primer. I had been given that Space Marines Battleforce for Christmas by my mother. Getting that battleforce box for Christmas was still one of the best gifts I had ever gotten in my days of youth. It just represented one of the first times I had ever gotten something like that for Christmas, as it seemed to be the first hobby that my parents acknowledged as legitimate (as they never would buy me videogames save for a couple instances.) Just thinking about it brings me back to those days and makes me grin.
I ended up resolving to start gradually building them back up into a force that I could be proud of and do my original battleforce some justice.
So I now stand at a place where I am unsure of what kind of army composition I would go for. Though the most looming question is to make use of the new fancy Primaris marines or not to? Truly the Primaris would represent the greatest of revivals and usher them into 8th, but would it truly do my old force justice?
If you guys have any thoughts to help me decide what direction to take that classic battleforce and company, it would make for a very interesting project.
So it is a new month and I am making some good headway in the new Monster Hunter game. All I can say is that it is incredibly awesome! If you haven’t gotten to play a Monster Hunter game before, now is the time to get on it!
There are many things that make the Monster Hunter games very good, but I will attempt to touch on a few here as I am not yet complete the game but have put a good 40ish hours into it.
1) The Controls
The game-play of Monster Hunter World (henceforth to be referred to as MHW) has very tight responsive controls that make all the difference in battle with different kinds of monster where every second counts. Every action and movement is important as you navigate battles and the environments they take place in. Anyone who had to play the MH games on a 3DS or handheld of any sort will know what I say when the PS4 controller is a god send.
2) The Environments
The various wild environments are all playgrounds that beg for exploration and reward players keen on finding everything that there is to find. Aside from being well-crafted and beautiful looking, there are many useful things to be found around them. Need to make potions? Find herbs. Need to make that special ammunition? Find all the right natural materials. You also have the opportunity to build more camps to start your missions from, and find the natural cat inhabitants called Grimalkyne to help you in your quests. With different environments come different monsters and it is what drives you to unlock the new locales.
3) The Monsters
Would be a poorly name game if the monsters weren’t a massive feature in it, and the rightly take center stage. With all their own unique looks and styles of trying to fend off those who intend to slay them, they all offer unique experiences in their fights that leave impressions that are distinct from one another. Sometimes the big monsters will cross paths and even fight each other in a spectacle Godzilla type display that leaves a sense of awe. It is very exciting to see what each big monster has to offer in terms of battle, and more so to see what they have to offer for equipment you can make from the materials they provide once you have bested them.
4) The Equipment
Now it might seem strange to have the equipment as a separate section of why I find the game to be so mystifying, but if you have played one of these before then you will understand 100%. When I personally encounter a new monster all I can think is “what can I make out of you?” and that holds true throughout the game. As the monsters unlock different weapons and armour you find that they prepare you for different scenarios with different damage types or defenses. So I find myself preparing multiple sets of armour to deal with certain enemies, as when you start fighting harder enemies you require preparation. On the note of weapons the variety is great, with each weapon being surprisingly in-depth with their move-sets giving you much variety. Be it the slow, but strong great sword or the quick-striking dual swords every weapon can do the job of hunting monsters, so for every style of play there is a weapon to match.
So all in all Monster Hunter World is a great experience, and I love every moment of it. It is something I recommend that anyone try as it is the best boss fighting game series around.
So I have been meaning to get a lot of progress on my Eldar painting, as I have been very slack in the past as I was more about collecting than painting, but I got incredibly distracted by the release of both Monster Hunter World and Dragonball FighterZ on Friday. Both of these games are incredible and exactly what I wanted them to be, which is something that is rare nowadays considering the very scummy practices we have seen as of late, but that is something I will write about at a later date.
What I really wanted to talk about was more Warhammer miniatures, more specifically some of the progress I have been making on my Biel-Tan Eldar. As I am rather happy with progress so far and the Warhammer community has always been fantastic about the sharing of paint jobs as it is ultimately a friendly community, I figured why not? On the note of painting I always found it hard to decide where to start in a specific army, like for example for my Eldar, do I paint the Guardians to start? The Aspect Warriors? The HQs I have? Always found it kind of hard to decide where to begin. For this I decided to start with the simpler of models.
So there is the start of my Guardians which taught me two things; One) I hate priming/undercoating with White as it feels like it only sticks after 2+ coats. Two) I love using Warpstone Glow and love the shade of green it turns out to be. Also as I live in Canada the cold air outside can mess with spray painting them as I don’t dare to do it inside, so that is another thing to be careful of.
Managed to also get a singular Wraithblade done. Love how it turned out, again I don’t claim to be a paint master, but I do love this model.
Lastly got an Eldar Warlock mostly done, could use a little touching up, his base needs to be dealt with and I want to do more with the Witchblade colour wise.
So all in all over last week (with the exception of Friday to now) I made lots of progress in my Eldar force. On a side note I am very excited for the Dark Eldar codex and hope to see some new models come with it to potentially use for an Ynnari force. Which by the way the Triumvirate of Ynnead looks painful to paint.
Anyway that is all for now, just some simple light-hearted paint report. Might show some more later on as I make progress and even post some of the battle reports I have from games I play with my group of Warhammer buddies if that is something that people would be interested in.
A petition to bring Slaanesh and the Emperor’s Children back to the forefront of GW’s efforts. Now this could be because we have seen a lot of focus back onto specific Chaos gods and their Space Marine followers; Deathguard/Nurgle and Thousand Sons/Tzeentch. So naturally that might leave the people who enjoy the other gods and their thematic Marines wanting something similar.
With the 40K narrative being pointed towards conflict with the chaos gods it leaves me with a hope. Hope that a Slaaneshi codex would bring with it a Dark Eldar codex and expansion. To pair any other army opposite Slaanesh would be ludicrous as the Eldar are those who forever struggle to not have their souls taken by Slaanesh. The Primaris/Deathguard and Custodes/Thousand Sons is nowhere as thematically appropriate as a Slaanesh/Dark Eldar release would be. That would be incredible and leaves me hoping that this is anywhere near the plan that GW has.
Though as for the petition I am not the most optimistic about the chance to affect the plans that GW has for releases, but it is good to see quite a few players be united in their want for something that isn’t just Imperium based. I would also like to see the Emperor’s Children be expanded a bit and believe that they deserve it just as much as Deathguard or Thousand Son’s, but it would be especially sweet to see the full return of Doomrider. Well all things considered I am rooting for these guys! Time will tell if anything comes from this petition, but I would be curious to know what you guys think. You think anything could come of this petition?
